The details of this web development project:
I was referred to this company through a friend. Shortly after, one of the company’s executives decided to meet with me while he was in town. We had coffee and talked about a new website for the technology company, which was based out of Calgary, and had recently been bought by a U.S. corporation. They needed to establish an updated web presence for their Canadian market. That included showcasing a library of LiDAR data that they had on file, for potential interested buyers.
Oh, and they needed some help with their search engine optimization – as always!
I was able to take on this project’s Canadian web development and design from start to finish. I hired designer to work on the aesthetics, while doing all the coding, and incorporating information the client wanted to see on their site.
The designer made icons and a whole new look for their website, based on the branding in their existing logo. A clean, web-based font was used, along with gradients and shadows to add ‘lift’ and dimension to the website graphics. The best part of the web design was probably the shadow ‘bend’ effect on the images – it made them look like ‘real’ maps that were ‘popping’ off the page. That was great, since this was a mapping company.
They used the WordPress blog software to post company news items, which we ‘fed’ into a sidebar widget. The footer contained the logo of their parent company (a requirement of their new website), as well as social media icons. The red colour of the parent company was incorporated into the design in a subtle way (for links), that still matched the rest of the site. It was a great accent colour. A ‘back to top’ button was also included on all the site’s footers, to help people navigate easier.
Overall, the technological theme of the company’s product came through in a professional way. They were able to post information about their company in an easy-to-use content management system, using WordPress.
